Bacterial microbiomes inhabiting root of several lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) cultivars

We compared the root microbiome of eight lettuce (Lactuca staiva)cultivars and the wild ancestor prickly lettuce (Lactuca serriola). The plants were collected from a unique sample site located in Schiltern, Austria (LAT +48°31’ LONG +15°37’). The 16S genes of putatively all bacterial cell was amplified with the F515F and R806 universal primers (Caporaso et al., 2011) and PCR libraries were sequenced by 454-pyrosequencing.
