Surveying Native Americans: Early Lessons from the CMPS

The 2020 CMPS is one of the first publicly available datasets to intentionally collect data on the political beliefs, attitudes, and preferences of Native Americans. In this article, we examine important questions and challenges in surveying Native Americans and discuss critical considerations in advancing survey work on Native Americans that is rooted in Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance. We hope this article highlights some of the innovations in the CMPS and also provides insight into how to advance survey research practice.

2020年CMPS是首批公开可用的、专门针对美洲原住民的政治信仰、态度与偏好开展数据采集的数据集之一。本文针对美洲原住民调查工作中的重要问题与挑战展开分析，并讨论了在以原住民数据主权与治理（Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance）为基本原则推进美洲原住民调查工作时的关键考量因素。我们期望本文既能凸显CMPS的若干创新之处，也能为推动调查研究实践的发展提供有益洞见。
