A pluperfect portrait from 1887 to 2012

ABSTRACT Under the Sociofuncionalist approach, we deal in this article with simple and compound pluperfect in historical journals of the Institute of Ceará from 1887 to 2012, with a textual length of fifteen thousand pages approximately. We detected 6,238 occurrences distributed in six functions: past before another past, past before a speech reference, discursive past, desiderative, subjunctive and conditional. Of these, the past before another past was investigated in variationist perspective, being the simple form conditioned, on a recurrent way, by discursive third-person and absence of verbal modifier. Also motivate the simple form the factors ephemerides, irregular verb and coordinate clause.

摘要 本文基于社会功能主义方法（Sociofuncionalist approach），对1887年至2012年塞阿拉学会（Institute of Ceará）历史期刊中的简单过去完成时与复合过去完成时展开研究，语料总篇幅约15000页。本研究共检出6238例语料实例，涵盖六种功能用法：先于另一过去动作的过去时、先于言语参照点的过去时、话语性过去时、祈愿式、虚拟式与条件式。其中，针对"先于另一过去动作的过去时"，本研究采用变异主义视角展开分析，发现其简单形式的使用规律地受到话语性第三人称及无动词修饰语两类因素的制约；此外，纪事条目、不规则动词与并列分句同样是促使该简单形式使用的影响因素。
