Treatment with 10 mg GR24 induced a significant increase in auxin content in the lateral branches of Quercus mongolica seedlings, which may be one of the main causes of inhibited lateral branch growth. The elevated sucrose levels in apical buds and reduced sucrose levels in lateral buds further corroborate the critical role of GR24 in suppressing lateral branch growth.
