The 1KM Global Population Density Distribution Product generates estimates of population density (number of people per square kilometer) for the years 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2020, which are calibrated against national census and population register data and adjusted in line with UN country-specific contexts. The spatial resolution of the dataset is 30 arc seconds (approximately 1 kilometer at the equator). To facilitate faster global processing, the 30 arc-second data are aggregated to resolutions of 2.5 arc-minutes, 15 arc-minutes, 30 arc-minutes and 1 degree.
