This archive contains Deep Argo ocean bathymetry detection based on information in Argo trajectory, metadata, and technical files. The product includes locations, depths, and times of ocean bathymetry detection using Deep Argo floats, along with an estimated horizontal position displacement. Metadata will be included to identify the Argo float model, WMO number and cycle during which the ocean detection grounding occurred. Multiple Deep Argo float models contribute to this product and some profile to deepest depth upon descent while others profile upon ascent. Bathymetry detections are associated only with profiles made during the deepest descent. Therefore, for some floats, the bathymetry detection occurs right after descent and for other floats, it occurs right before ascent. Refer to Zilberman et al (2025) paper for further details. FORMAT: All products are netCDF files and fill value is ‘99999’ for numbers. The product has the following variables: Locations and times: LATITUDE – transmitted GPS latitude at the surface LONGITUDE – transmitted GPS longitude at the surface JULD – transmitted time at the surface HORIZONTAL_DISPLACEMENT - estimated horizontal position displacement in km Note on times and locations: these are the closest locations and times to the ocean bathymetry detection from Deep Argo floats. Depending on the float model, if the profile and grounding are upon descent, the GPS location and time are PRIOR to the grounding. If the grounding and profile are upon ascent, the GPS location and time are AFTER the grounding. Bathymetry detection: DEPTH_GRND - depth of the bathymetry detection Associated data: CYCLE_NUMBER - cycle number of profile during which the float detected bathymetry WMO_NUMBER - WMO number of Argo float WMO_INST_TYPE - comes from ‘WMO_INST_TYPE’ variable in Argo files and corresponds to Argo Referent Table R8 to indicate instrument type found here: https://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/search_nvs/R08/
