NFDI Network Analysis / NFDI Netzwerkanalyse

This project is about the Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur (NFDI). It analysis its connections between entities and visualizes those on a map. Node size indicate the amount of participation in consortia. Weight of edges indicate the amount of collaboration between entities within consortia.

Plots

There are five different kind of plots.

all: This shows the whole network of entities. Only universities and entities with at least three consortial participations are labelled.

TU9: Highlighting the universities that are part of TU9

EXU: Highlighting all the universities with the status "Exzellenzuniversität"

NHR: Highlighting members of the "Nationales Hochleistungsrechnen"

Applicants: Highlighting the entities that have the role "applicant" for at least one consortium.

Data

The data used for the network has been taken from Wikidata using two queries:- `data/wikidata-edges.sparql`- `data/wikidata-nodes.sparql`

The results have been annoted with additional information regarding TU9, EXU,NHR affiliations.

We used `Gephi 0.10.1` for the visualization. The `.gephi`-file is stored at`data/`. You find all maps as layers in `maps/nfdi-network-analysis-map.svg`.

The colorset of edges has been adjusted to RGB 0,84,159.

There are now "focus-maps" which show edges between entities of e.g. TU9, NHR, EXU. 

Addtion of a map which shows only edges from one entity: RWTH Aachen University.
