Supplemental Table S1: Comparison of cellular size, shape, and speed of PAECs cultured on 0.22 kPa, 4 kPa, 30 kPa and plastic with respect to those cultured on 1.25 kPa hydrogels. Spread area, circularity, and speed of PAECs cultured on collagen-coated hydrogel of shear modulus 1.25 kPa versus those cultured on collagen-coated hydrogels with a shear modulus of 0.22 kPa, 4 kPa, 30 kPa, and plastic. These data are the mean ± standard deviation from five different independent experiments. These data are shown in Fig. 3. Supplemental Table S2: Comparison of the PMF intensity (i.e., standard deviation of pixel intensity over 5 consecutive frames) at intercellular regions with respect to the regions without cells. The median value of the standard deviation of pixel intensity across five successive frames (defined as PMF intensity) is compared with the same property obtained in no-cell regions (i.e., regions without cells) for PAEC cultures on hydrogels with a shear modulus of 1.25 kPa versus 30 kPa. Comparison is shown for extracellular Ca2+ concentration of 2 mM versus 0.1 μM. These data are the mean ± standard deviation from five different independent experiments. The data is shown in Fig. 4.
