Volume of recycled waste Japan FY 2022, by type

In the fiscal year 2022, with about 4.55 million metric tons, more than half of the recycled waste in Japan was recycled after the intermediate treatment. Overall, around 7.9 million metric tons of waste were recycled in that year.It is mandatory for citizens in Japan to sort recyclable waste strictly before disposal. Some municipalities in Japan request people to separate garbage into more than 20 types.
