Samples were collected from five sites across the Gulf of Alaska during April and May 2024: Spinnaker Sea Farms (59.4603, -151.5190) in Jakolof Bay on April 24, Bootleggers Cove Farm (59.4682, -151.5175) in Bootleggers Cove on April 23, Moss Island Oyster Farm (59.5736, -151.2745) on April 23 in Peterson Bay, Simpson Bay Oyster Co (60.6591, -145.8836) in Simpson Bay on May 7, and Salty Lady Seafood Company (58.6353, -134.9535) in Bridget Cove on May 21. Fifteen individuals of Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) and 10 to 15 individuals of Pacific blue mussels (Mytilus trossulus) were obtained from each farm. In Jakolof Bay, 5 Weathervane scallops (Patinopecten caurinus) were obtained from the farm and 4 clam species were unearthed from the nearby mudflat: 15 bent-nose clams (Macoma nasuta), 4 softshell clams (Mya arenaria), 1 butter clam (Saxidomus gigantea), and 1 basket cockle (Clinocardium nuttallii). Triplicate particulate organic matter samples (2 Liters) were taken in the farm during each field collection to estimate the availability of food sources to the shellfish. Dominant macroalgae and terrestrial organic matter were collected in each timepoint. We trawled for zooplankton around the farm using a plankton net and extracted the copepods to use as a zooplankton endmember, and converted it to a phytoplankton endmember after deducting a trophic discrimination factor. All of this data is included in a .csv file with the carbon and nitrogen bulk stable isotopes and concentrations of all samples, as well as the shell size and dry weight of the shellfish.
These data are part of the Mariculture Research and Restoration Consortium (Mariculture ReCon) Component of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council. Gulf Watch Alaska is the long-term ecosystem monitoring program of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council for the marine ecosystem affected by the 1989 oil spill.
