CTD Castaway shallow water cast Mexican North Caribbean/ UNICARIBE-PNIC/COIXLACHÉ-03/2016

Through a collaborative work Universidad del Caribe-Isla Contoy National Park, the first oceanographic campaign was carried out in shallow waters within the Park's polygon and was carried out by UNICARIBE-PNIC / COIXLACHÉ-03/2016, with the aim of collecting oceanographic data of scientific importance for the various areas of knowledge for conservation. The Isla Contoy National Park is a Protected Natural Area located in the municipality of Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo. It has a total area of ​​5,126 hectares, of which 375 hectares of the marina were covered in this study. 175 measurement points were established, distributed throughout the 4 kilometers of the study area. Measurements of pH, conductivity, temperature and pressure were made. These measurements were made in May 2016. Using the SUFER 12® Program, the data was processed to make three-dimensional models and contour models. The topographic relief is maintained at a depth of between 1 and 3 meters on the west side of the reef ridge with the exception of two depressions found. In the east a decline was found that culminated at 9.5 meters. The salinity remains within the limits established for the oceans and the temperature ranges between 25 and 29 ° C. The normal conditions of pH of the ocean water lies in 8.1 units, the average of the measurements carried out in this study shows a pH of 7.7 units.
