In the present study, the capacity of gut bacteria to utilize alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) was evaluated as a complex bacterial community. To identify the effect of AOS on a complex bacterial community, colonic fermentations were carried out using an in vitro gut model. The dynamics of the microbiota community was determined using Illumina-based 16S gene amplicon sequencing.
