Soil conditions and microbial assemblages under and outside Yucca baccata canopies in a Mojave Desert burn area Metagenome

As larger and more frequent fires occur in The Mojave Desert, understanding how fire modifies the soil environment is key to identifying where post-fire revegetation efforts may be successful. To explore how Yucca baccata canopies influence soil properties and microbial assemblages in a post-fire environment, we sequenced 16S and ITS amplicons to study how bacterial and fungal assemblages differ in post-fire soils beneath Y. baccata canopies compared to interspaces.
