Highly divergent interleukin genes have not been identified in reptiles. Knowledge of the complete interleukin gene content across non-mammal vertebrates will ultimately provide insight into the evolution of the immune response in vertebrates. We used RNA sequencing of stimulated lymphocytes from Pogona vitticeps spleen to identify divergent interleukin genes in the genome.
