We performed bulk RNA sequencing to characterize proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTECs) and PTECs that are positive for CD24 and CD133 (presumed to be scattered tubular cells (STCs)). We found an upregulation of many STC markers in our bulk RNA sequencing data and identified a pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic phenotype for STCs compared to PTECs. Many forms of metabolism were downregulated in the STCs compared to PTECs. We performed bulk RNA sequencing on FACS sorted cells from a human kidney single cell suspension. 7 Different human kidney samples were used to obtain 7 samples of CD13-positive cells (PTECs) and 7 samples of CD13/CD24 and CD13/CD133-positive cells (STC). The 2 cell types were compared to each other with 7 replicates per cell type. After initial analysis, we excluded sample number 6 and 7 from analysis since these samples showed high discrepancy with the other samples on a PCA plot. **RAW DATA not provided due to patient privacy concerns**
