A high degree of phenotypic and physiological intraspecific variations of Laburnicola sp. (a new taxon awiting to be published) was recorded. Inoculation test suggested it could successfully infect host roots and form sclerotia-like structures in cortical cells, a typical character of dark septate endophytes (DSEs). Furthermore, most isolates were shown to promote host seedlings growth. Genomic infromation of this new species would provide an ideal model for investigating the root-fungal symbiosis and fine-scale evolution of sympatric fungal population.
