Grassland and woodlot habitat was selected from York University’s Keele Campus . In each habitat type, 25 meter belt transect tape was layed out 5 times. Each time (while walking slowly and continuously ) along the transect tape, bird calls and observed birds with binoculars /and naked eyes were identified and their common name was recorded. The total number of each type of bird seen (frequency of sighting) was also recorded for each transect along with their estimated distance (in meter) from the transect. Beaufort Scale was used to record the wind speed, where visible effect on land (such as smoke rising vertically or leaves rustling) were used to estimate the Beaufort unit (0-12).

本数据集的草原与林地生境样本取自约克大学(York University)基尔校区(Keele Campus)。针对每一类生境,布设5条长25米的带状样带(belt transect tape)。沿每条样带持续匀速慢行时,通过鸣听鸟类叫声、借助双筒望远镜或裸眼观测识别鸟类,并记录其通用俗名(common name);同时记录每条样带内观测到的各类鸟类的总数量(即目击频次),以及该鸟类与样带的估算距离(单位:米)。本研究采用蒲福风级(Beaufort Scale)记录风速:通过陆地上的可见征象(如烟雾垂直升腾、树叶沙沙作响)估算蒲福等级(0至12级)。
