Educational needs for traumatic perinatal events among labor and delivery nurses in Korea: a survey study

Purpose : The present study was conducted to identify the traumatic perinatal events, provision of related education, and education needs of nurses` working in the labor and delivery room. Method: Nurses working in the labor and delivery room (LDR) were invited to participate in the suvery, delivered via paper or online. The data were collected from October 1 to November 25, 2022. Data from 129 nurses were analyzed using frequency, Chi-square test, Fisher exact test, t-test, and ANOVA. Result : This study assessed the following six traumatic perinatal events: difficult birth, postpartum bleeding, baby with abnormality, serious injury of mother/baby, stillbirth by dismembering, and loss of mother/baby. Virtually all participants (98.6%) reported having experienced one or more since working in the LDR. The most shocking traumatic perinatal event experienced was the loss of mother and baby (40.3%), yet 24.8% did not recall ever having received education on the topic. About 63% of participants experienced traumatic perinatal events within a year of working in the delivery room. The average education needs for traumatic perinatal events is 3.67±0.37 out of 4 and the effective educational method that is preferred by nurses in the delivery room is simulation education. Conclusion : Since most of the participants experience various traumatic perinatal events in the early stages of work in the LDR and have a high educational demand for traumatic perinatal events, it is necessary to provide more effective stimulation education programs in the early days of labor and delivery experience.

研究目的:本研究旨在明确产房(Labor and Delivery Room,LDR)在岗护士所遭遇的围产期创伤性事件、相关教育供给现状及护士的教育需求。 研究方法:本研究邀请产房在岗护士参与调研,调研形式涵盖纸质问卷与线上问卷两类,数据收集时段为2022年10月1日至11月25日。最终共纳入129份护士有效数据,并采用频数分析、卡方检验、Fisher精确检验、t检验以及方差分析进行统计处理。 研究结果:本研究共评估了6类围产期创伤性事件,分别为难产、产后出血、新生儿异常、母婴严重损伤、解体性死产以及母婴丧失。结果显示,几乎所有受访者(98.6%)表示在产房工作期间曾遭遇过至少1起此类事件。其中,最具冲击性的围产期创伤性事件为母婴丧失(占比40.3%),但仍有24.8%的受访者表示未曾接受过该主题的相关教育。约63%的受访者在进入产房工作的1年内便遭遇了围产期创伤性事件。产房护士对围产期创伤性事件相关教育的平均需求得分为3.67±0.37(满分4分),护士更青睐的高效教育方式为模拟教学。 研究结论:鉴于多数受访者在产房工作初期便遭遇了各类围产期创伤性事件,且对相关教育存在较高需求,因此有必要在护士的产房从业早期阶段,提供更为高效的模拟教育方案。
