The aim of the study was to combine morphological and molecular tools to confirm or refute the specific status of Angiostrongylus mackerrasae. The analysed nematode was collected from the lungs of Rattus fuscipes in Brisbane, Queensland. The nematode was considered conspecific with A. mackerrasae and genetically characterized by generation of reference complete mtDNA. The availability of mtDNA genome and associated whole genome sequence reads of A. mackerrasae enables unequivocal genetic identification and differentiation from other Angiostrongylus species.
