The focus of this study was to analyze empirically the mediating role of innovation capabilities and open innovation on the relationship between a SME’s customer orientation and innovative performance. To test the posited hypotheses, a cross-sectional field survey quantitative approach was used. Based on the empirical data of 311 SMEs operating in study area, the study was employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze the data and research hypotheses in the proposed structural regression model. The SEM analysis revealed that the higher-level strategic orientation of small and medium enterprise is the higher innovative performance. Finally, the results indicated that innovation capabilities and open innovation mediated the path between customer orientation and innovative performance. Moreover, the study indicated that customer orientation create value through innovation capabilities and open innovation, thus have an indirect impact on SMEs innovative performance.

本研究旨在通过实证分析,探究创新能力与开放式创新在中小企业(Small and Medium Enterprise,SME)顾客导向与创新绩效之间的关系中所发挥的中介作用。为检验所提出的研究假设,本研究采用横断面实地调查的定量研究方法。本研究基于研究区域内311家中小企业的实证数据,运用结构方程模型(Structural Equation Modeling,SEM)对所构建的结构回归模型中的数据与研究假设进行分析。结构方程模型分析结果显示,中小企业的战略导向层级越高,其创新绩效也越高。最后,研究结果表明,创新能力与开放式创新在顾客导向与创新绩效的路径中发挥了中介作用。此外,本研究发现,顾客导向可通过创新能力与开放式创新创造价值,进而对中小企业的创新绩效产生间接影响。
