We established an inbred strain of a tunicate, C. intestinalis, from an individual caught in Onagawa-bay, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, by repeating self-fertilization. We analyzed genomes from sperm of two mature siblings obtained after 11 self-crosses, and found that 0.04% of nucleotide positions were heterozygous in both genomes. Heterozygosities of inbred animals were much lower than those of animals in natural populations (1.1 to 1.2%).We decoded the genome sequence
