Intra Cavitary Pharmacokinetics and Drug Resistance in Pulmonary Tuberculosis

We studied patients with pulmonary multidrug or extensively drug resistant pulmonary tuberculosis who underwent adjunctive surgical resection. Five tissue AFB cultures from different sites of the resected lung lesion were performed and for all samples positive for M. tuberculosis DNA extraction and subsequently whole genome sequencing (WGS) was performed. The main aim was to evaluate for the development of drug resistant associated mutations in M. tuberculosis isolates in the lung as compared to sputum samples previously isolated during treatment and before surgery.
