Determinants of breastfeeding initiation at discharge in 6.4 million United States births: data underlying the article

Data underlying an explainable machine learning study of breastfeeding initiation at hospital discharge in 6,379,316 United States births (CDC/NCHS Natality Public Use Files; 2022 development cohort, 2023 temporal external validation cohort). This is a data deposit, not a software deposit. It contains the derived tables behind every number reported in the article, the 38,400-birth sample on which the Shapley analysis was run together with the Shapley values for those rows, the two trained gradient boosting models, and the data dictionary giving the definition and record position of every predictor. All tables are plain JSON and CSV and can be read without running any code. The raw natality files are not redistributed: the CDC publishes them without application, fee or data use agreement.
