资源简介:
Julia Ward Howe was a musician, a celebrated abolitionist, and a women's rights advocate. She was a member of the Woman Suffrage Association, organized the Woman's Peace Congress in London in 1871, and was eventually elected President of the Association of the Advancement of Women in 1881. Still, she will always be remembered for "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," which led Mark Twain to sponsor her as the first woman ever to be elected to the Academy of Arts and Letters. The Julia Ward Howe collection includes manuscripts and letters by the American poet and abolitionist. Letters to Elizabeth Fairchild, E. S. Goodwin, and others are present. This collection was digitized as part of Project REVEAL (Read and View English & American Literature).
