This survey forms part of a major project dealing with family-oriented day-care institutions. # The main purpose of the project is to examine the experiences and opinions of parents and staff as regards parent co-operation as well as their opinion of the everyday life and well-being of the children. # The background of the survey was a wish from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Research Committee of the Directorate of Social Services (Socialstyrelsens forsøgsudvalg) to involve the Danish National Institute of Social Research in the evaluation of pilot projects within the field of day-care and child institutions, and the survey should be seen as an extension of the work of the Child Commission (Børnekommissionen). In its reports the Commission puts special emphasis on the importance of an extension of parent co-operation where the parents are involved more actively in the work at the day-care institutions, among other things in order to strengthen the connection between the various environments of the children's daily life and create continuity in their lives. # The results of the survey are meant to contribute to pointing out how the day-care institutions may best be organized so that they may meet the needs of the families and of the children. # The survey consists of an intensive study of two age-integrated institutions which both have as their aim extended parent co-operation and which were both established on the initiative of a group of parents. The two institutions are situated in widely different areas: Læssøegården in Nørrebro in Copenhagen and Baunehøj in Lynge in the municipality of Allerød. The survey consists of telephone interviews with all the parents, periods of observation by participants at the institutions, and intensive interviews with members of staff and some of the parents. # In addition, another age-integrated institution in Nørrebro is included, i.e. Ryesgade 60, as well as two kindergartens in Lynge: Lynghøj and Kokkedal kindergartens. These three institutions are examined in less detail by means of telephone interviews with the parents and interviews with members of staff. # The filed data material is based solely on the telephone interviews with the parents of children in the five institutions
