Making of Raffia Palm Doors for Earth-Wall Houses (Janda and Kpra), Sabiye, Banda District, Bono Region, Ghana

This document describes the process of making traditional doors for the two earth-wall houses constructed by Nafana artisans on the grounds of the Banda Cultural Centre. Drawing on interviews and making sessions conducted in November 2022 and January-March 2023, it describes how artisans harvest and process raffia palm (gbandaa) fronds used in door making. The document describes the process of weaving for two types of doors (janda and kpra) and their gendered associations.
