The aim of this paper is to show the unafeciveness of wage moderation policies and to emphasise the role of the State as innovator of first resort. It will be shown that wage moderation, which is assumed to drive net export and economic growth, may produce perverse macroeconomic effects, on the ground that it disincentive innovation. Some considerations on the role of the public spending in contrasting the pandemia will follow.
