POLLEN ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM SITES 42SA24852, 42SA24853, AND 42SA24889, SAN JUAN COUNTY, SOUTHEASTERN UTAH

Three archaeological sites in San Juan County, southeastern Utah, were examined for
pollen to identify plants processed both at the sites and in association with specific features. Site
42Sa24852, exhibits evidence of both Basketmaker III and Pueblo II occupations. A complex
habitation structure (Feature 4) contained several storage bins and a central hearth that were
sampled to better understand life and food processing of people living in the structure during
Basketmaker III times. The Pueblo II occupation is represented by a nearly square stone structure.
Site 42Sa24853 reflects a Basketmaker III or Pueblo I occupation. A pollen sample was collected
from an enigmatic feature in an effort to assist in identifying the purpose of the feature. Site
42Sa24889, occupied during Basketmaker III times, is represented by samples from a single
cooking pit. Pollen analysis at these sites was undertaken to shed light on economic activity at the
sites and also to assist in identifying the use of some of the features.

针对犹他州东南部圣胡安县的三处考古遗址开展孢粉分析，以识别曾在遗址内加工，或与特定考古遗迹相关联的植物种类。42Sa24852号遗址同时存在篮器时代三期（Basketmaker III）与普韦布洛二期（Pueblo II）的居住遗存证据。该复合型居住建筑（遗迹4）内设有多处储物窖与一处中心灶台，研究人员对其取样以深入探析篮器时代三期该建筑内居民的生活与食物加工情况；普韦布洛二期的居住遗存则以一处近乎方形的石质建筑为代表。42Sa24853号遗址的居住遗存可归属于篮器时代三期或普韦布洛一期（Pueblo I），研究人员从一处不明遗迹中采集孢粉样品，以辅助判定该遗迹的功能。42Sa24889号遗址的年代为篮器时代三期，其遗存样本仅取自一处烹饪坑。本次对上述遗址开展的孢粉分析，旨在阐明遗址的经济活动状况，并辅助判定部分考古遗迹的使用功能。
