Breakdown of auction revenue expenditure shares from EU-ETS 2022, by end use

Auctions of EU ETS emission allowances for both stationary installations and aircraft operators generated revenue of 20.1 billion euros in 2022. Approximately 21 percent of this total went toward green transportation, while almost a quarter of auctioning revenues were spent on energy efficiency and social measures. EU member states should use at least 50 percent of auctioning revenues for climate- and energy-related purposes.
