The International Arctic Ocean Buoy Program (IABP) was established by the Polar Science Center (PSC), Applied Physics Laboratory-University of Washington, in 1978. This dataset contains data collected and collated through the U.S. Interagency Buoy Program (USIABP) as part of the IABP. The participants of the IABP work together to maintain a network of drifting buoys in the Arctic Ocean to provide meteorological and oceanographic data for real-time operational requirements and research purposes including support to the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the World Weather Watch (WWW) Programme. Data from the IABP have many uses, including: 1. Research in Arctic climate and climate change, 2. Forecasting weather and ice conditions, 3. Validation of satellites, 4. Forcing, validation and assimilation into numerical climate models, and tracking the source and fate of samples taken from the ice. Over 1000 publications have benefited from observations from the IABP. The U.S. contributions to the IABP are coordinated through the U.S. Interagency Buoy Program (USIABP), which is managed by the U.S. National/Naval Ice Center, and the Polar Science Center, and represent several U.S. agencies. The data collected by the USIABP are made available on the IABP website (https://iabp.apl.uw.edu) in various useful formats, including near real time distribution of raw data, in addition to the LEVEL 1 data product provided here. This dataset contains the following variables from the drifting buoys: Latitude, Longitude, the time delay of the position report in minutes (Delay(Min)), Barometric Pressure Tendency (BPT),Barometric Pressure (BP), Surface Temperature (Ts), Air Temperature (Ta), Hull Temperature (Th), and Battery Voltage (Batt). Each file contains one years worth of data from all buoys reporting during that year. This is level 1 data, meaning that the data has been quality controlled for errors in position, range checks, and consistency with neighboring observations as per Guidelines provided by the WMO/IOC Data Buoy Cooperation The USIABP is supported by National Science Foundation (NSF) Arctic Observing Network (AON) Grant # 1951762, and significant contributions from many other US agencies including Office of Naval Research Grant # N00014-20-1-2207, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Grant # NA20OAR4320271, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration Grant # 80NSSC21K1148, Coast Guard, Department of Energy, and North Slope Borough Search and Rescue.
