Fill from a hearth at site 24RL0371 in eastern Montana, near the North Dakota border, was examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. Charcoal and charred botanics recovered from the hearth fill were submitted for identification and AMS radiocarbon dating. A projectile point also was examined for possible protein residues. This site is a pre-contact (Middle Archaic) lithic scatter and historic trash dump. The prehistoric component might have been used as a long-term or multi-seasonal campsite. Pollen, macrofloral, and protein residue analyses were used to help answer questions pertaining to resource utilization and site function. AMS radiocarbon dating provided temporal information.
