The aim of the study was to analyze growth rates of freshwater bacteria, and community change upon grazer removal. The bacterivore-free treatment was prepared by filtration through 1 micron filter, and the unfiltered water served as a control. Both treatments were prepared in triplicates, and the samples were collected every 12 hours. V5V6 fragment of 16S rRNA gene was amplified and sequenced on an Illumina platform. We observed pronounced changes in the bacterial communities between the time 0 and treatments already within 24 hrs, which propagated towards the end of the experiment. The changes were linked to different growth rates of specific phylotypes in the treatments.
