Window on Culture: Appreciation of Chinese and Western Painting Art

Through years of aggregation, we have collected many fine art paintings on Europe and Asia. According to the 'Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works,' they are all artistic works in the public domain of copyright.In the history of Western art, since the Renaissance, the concept of humanism has guided artists to explore the realities of the natural world, devoting themselves to the precise use of perspective, the contrast of light and shadow, and the enchanting depiction of form. For example, Leonardo da Vinci's works emphasized anatomical precision. Michelangelo emphasized the strength and vitality of the human body through his sculptural paintings, while Raphael pursued harmony and idealization of beauty in his works. After the Renaissance, the Baroque and Rococo styles saw the emergence of more exaggerated dynamics and subtle ornamentation, while Impressionism focused on the instantaneous capture of light and color, demonstrating the importance of momentary perception. Western painting is characterized by an emphasis on line and the pursuit of a sense of deep space. Spatial perspective is considered an important invention in Western painting, which gives the picture the illusion of three-dimensional space and gives the viewer a sense of immersion. In addition, since the Renaissance, portraits and nudes have demonstrated an in-depth study of the human form and musculature. In contrast, the Chinese painting tradition focuses more on the expression of the universe and the harmonious relationship between man and nature. From landscape painting to flower and bird painting, Chinese artists used brush and ink lines to express the emotions and philosophies of their inner world, rather than pursuing a realistic reproduction of the external natural world. For example, the landscape paintings of the Song Dynasty, with their ethereal mountains and distant ink, reflect the artist's inner transcendence and pursuit of Taoist philosophy. Chinese painters often emphasize mood and the technique of "leaving white space", i.e. leaving room for the viewer's imagination by omitting details. Generally speaking, Western paintings tend to favor detailed depiction of form and realistic expression, while Chinese paintings emphasize spiritual symbolism and lyrical expression. Western painting tends to pursue the effect of light and shadow and the realism of color, while Chinese painting pays more attention to the rhythm of ink brushwork and the depth of meaning. Although these two art forms have their own distinctive characteristics, they both explore mankind's pursuit of beauty and understanding of the natural world in different ways. In the contemporary era of globalization, these differences and characteristics are not only more widely recognized and appreciated, but also draw on and integrate with each other, stimulating the possibility of cross-cultural artistic innovation.

历经多年搜集整合，我们馆藏了大量欧亚地区的美术绘画作品。依据《保护文学和艺术作品伯尔尼公约》（Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works），上述作品均属于著作权公有领域的艺术创作。在西方艺术史中，自文艺复兴（Renaissance）以来，人文主义理念引导艺术家探索自然世界的真实面貌，致力于精准运用透视技法、把控光影对比，并对形体进行富有感染力的刻画。例如列奥纳多·达·芬奇的作品注重解剖学精度；米开朗基罗通过雕塑式绘画凸显人体的力量与生命力；拉斐尔则在创作中追求美感的和谐与理想化。文艺复兴之后，巴洛克（Baroque）与洛可可（Rococo）风格涌现出更具张力的动态表现与细腻的装饰手法，而印象派（Impressionism）则专注于瞬时捕捉光影与色彩，彰显了瞬间感知的重要性。西方绘画以注重线条、追求纵深空间感为特征。空间透视被视为西方绘画的重要发明，它能为画面赋予三维空间的视觉错觉，令观者产生身临其境的沉浸感。此外，自文艺复兴以来，肖像画与裸体画创作均体现了对人体形态与肌肉结构的深入研究。与之相对，中国绘画传统更侧重宇宙观的表达以及人与自然的和谐共生关系。从山水画到花鸟画，中国画家以笔墨线条抒发内心世界的情感与哲思，而非追求对外在自然世界的写实复刻。例如宋代山水画以空灵山峦与淡远墨色，传递出画家内心的超脱境界与对道家哲学的追求。中国画家通常注重意境营造与‘留白’（leaving white space）技法，即通过省略细节为观者预留想象空间。概而言之，西方绘画偏好对形体的细致刻画与写实表达，而中国绘画则注重精神象征与抒情表意；西方绘画多追求光影效果与色彩写实性，中国绘画则更关注笔墨节奏与意蕴深度。尽管这两种艺术形式各具鲜明特色，但二者均以不同路径探索了人类对美的追求与对自然世界的认知。在全球化的当代语境下，这些差异与特质不仅获得了更广泛的认知与欣赏，更实现了相互借鉴与融合，为跨文化艺术创新激发了更多可能。
