This metadata entry refers to measurements of oceanic organosulfur compounds made by Sue Turner and halocarbons made by David Hydes during the Challenger 45 research cruise in the North Sea as part of the North Sea Project (NSP). The cruise began on 28th January 1989 and ended on 9th February 1989 with a spatial coverage of +51N to +56N latitude and +2W to +8E longitude. The data consists of: Organosulfur compounds: -65 measurements of the concentration of dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration and gas chromatography; -73 measurements of the concentration of dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP) per unit volume of the water column (particulate GF/C phase) by filtration and gas chromatography; -1 measurement of the concentration of dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate phase) by gas chromatography; -8 measurements of the concentration of dimethylsulphide + dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMS+DMSP) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration and gas chromatography; -1 measurement of the concentration of dimethylsulphide + dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMS+DMSP) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate phase) by gas chromatography; -68 measurements of the concentration of dimethylsulphide (DMS) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography). Halocarbons: -68 measurements of the concentration of dibromochloromethane per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography); -70 measurements of the concentration of dibromomethane per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography); -75 measurements of the concentration of dichlorobromomethane per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography); -69 measurements of the concentration of iodomethane (methyl iodide) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography); -74 measurements of the concentration of tetrachloroethene per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography); -75 measurements of the concentration of tetrachloromethane (carbon tetrachloride) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography); -74 measurements of the concentration of tribromomethane per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography); -75 measurements of the concentration of trichloromethane (chloroform) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate GF/C phase) by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography). Ammonium: -297 measurements of the concentration of ammonium (NH4) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate phase) by colorimetric autoanalysis.
