Eucalypt: survivor, colonist, expatriate

This was an exhibition curated by Martina Copley who provided and introductory essay and included artists Heather Shimmen and Josephine Kuperholtz as well as myself. The premise of the exhibition was to examine our relation to the natural world and connect it to the understanding of self: how can nature be re-envisaged as a kind of fiction as a way to understand and apprehend human nature? The exhibition also toured to Maroondah Art Gallery, Melbourne. La Trobe Arts Centre has a strong reputation for exhibiting and commissioning contemporary art and positioned opposite Bendigo Art Gallery, complements the museum and captured a very large audience of 2,700 for the exhibition. The La Trobe Gallery is managed through the La Trobe University as part of a suite of its university galleries and as such has a committee review system. Peer review exhibition selection panel members include Leanne Fitzgibbon, Senior Curator, Bendigo Art Gallery and Stephen Turpie, Lecturer in Visual Arts, La Trobe University. A detailed proposal was submitted for consideration by the Gallery.
