Photograph of four men in the interior of the Evertsen Adobe in San Gabriel just before it was schedueled for demolition, July 22, 1960. Four men stand by one of two doorways in the house, an extinguished fire place visible to their left. The man directly in the doorway is the shortest, wears a darkly-colored shirt and is identified as Thomas Workman Temple II, the San Gabriel Mission Custodian. The other men from left to right are identified as: "Chuck" Fulkerson, Title Insurance and Trust; Norm Woest, Title Insurance and Trust; and Charles Elgert, President of the San Gabriel Historical Society and Postmaster.; The adobe was built in 1850 by John R. Evertsen, who was charged with taking the first U.S. Census of the City and County of Los Angeles.
