NUTS 2-Level Data for Organic and Conventional Agricultural Activities in the European Union (2010-2020)

What the dataset contains Area (ha) and livestock numbers (heads) for 49 crop and livestock activities. Disaggregation by farming system (organic, conventional, total). Available for all EU NUTS 2 regions for the years 2010 and 2020. Provided in long‑format CSV and GAMS‑compatible GDX files. Data sources Primary source: Integrated Farm Statistics (IFS) from Eurostat (ad‑hoc request within the OrganicTargets4EU project). (EC, 2020) Additional information from the Common Agricultural Policy Regionalised Impact Modelling System (CAPRI) time‑series database (1999‑2018) to allocate activity shares where IFS lacks detail. (Gocht & Witzke, 2025) German Farm Structural Survey (FDZ) used for validation. (Neuenfeldt et al., 2024) Validation Validation against German NUTS‑2 regions shows strong concordance between IFS‑derived values and FDZ data, with only isolated outliers. Potential uses Large‑scale bio‑economic modelling (e.g., CAPRI, partial equilibrium models). Policy impact assessment for the EU Green Deal and organic farming targets.
