Toxin structure shapes palatability in a chemically defended butterfly - Excerpts from Mantid Trials
收藏资源简介:
Example videos of mantid predation trials: Toxin structure shapes palatability in a chemically defended butterflyErik Todd, Aaron Denton, Dheeraj Halali, Glennis Julian, Adria C. LeBoeuf, Chris D. Jiggins and Erika C. Pinheiro de Castro Six video recordings of trials from Experiment 1, in which Hierodula membranacea mantids were presented with Heliconius sara larvae reared on either Passiflora auriculata (cyclopentenyl CGs; three videos) or P. biflora (aliphatic CGs; three videos). Videos were recorded ad libitum during experimental trials as illustrative examples and do not cover the full trial duration. All behavioural responses (rejection and face wiping) were scored live during trials; these recordings were not used for scoring or analysis. The videos show mantid attack behaviour and larval handling, rejection, face wiping and consumption. The behaviours contained in these videos are as follows: M1L4: Mantid consumes H. sara larva and displays no aversive behaviour during the trial. After the trial finished, face wiping was observed. M4L9: Mantid exhibits both face wiping and rejection behaviour. M6L11: Mantid exhibits face wiping behaviour. Rejection occurred after the end of the video but before the end of the trial. M7L12: Mantid consumes the entire larva and displays no aversive behaviour. M8L13: Mantid exhibits face wiping behaviour. M13L2: Mantid exhibits no aversive behaviour.
