High prevalence of intestinal protozoans among asymptomatic individuals in rural and urban areas of conflict-hit Northwest Cameroon

this study is titled "High prevalence of intestinal protozoans among asymptomatic individuals in rural and urban areas of conflict-hit in Northwest Cameroon". It was a cross-sectional school and community-based study carried out in two localities. A questionnaire was used to collect data on socio-demographic characteristics, hygiene and other risk factors. Stool specimens were collected and analyzed using the direct wet smear (saline and iodine), formol ether concentration and modified Ziehl Neelsen techniques. All stool specimens were analyzed in pairs and read by two parasitologist each. Parasite stages were confirmed using pictures from standard literature (Cheesbrough M. District Laboratory Practice in Tropical Countries Part 1. Cambridge University Press, Cambridge;1998). People involved with sample collection, processing, analysis and/or submission: Specimen collection was done by authors with assistance from other personnel trained for the purpose. Specimen analysis and issuing of results was done by the authors. Data was keyed into MS-Excel spreadsheet and exported to SPSS version 28 for analysis. Chi square was used to compare prevalence between categories while odds ratio was used to identify risk factors. Results of the various techniques were compared.
