The dataset 3 was collected on September 22, 2015 at 3:56 pm by a group of 5 Ecology (Bio 2050) students. Data was collected near the Osgoode Library woodlot via transect measuring tapes. The group of students searched for any adult tree at the woodlot or in other words, any tree whose diameter was wider than the diameter of an average adult fist. Once the tree #1 was selected, the group proceeded to measure the tree's diameter. The measuring tape was held at chest height and horizontally extended to measure the diameter of the tree in meters. Afterward, the students assessed the living condition of the tree on a scale from 0 to 2 by observing the general appearance, number, pattern and coloration of leaves along the trunk and canopy as well as any presence of single or multiple dead branches. 0 on the given scale meant that a tree was dead; 1 meant that a tree was living or in acceptable living condition, while 2 indicated a huge green canopy. Then, students proceeded to measure the distance in meters from the tree of interest to the next adult tree by extending the measuring tape from the mid point of tree's trunk to the trunk's mid point of the next closest adult tree. It is important to note that all trees involved in the following collection of data were selected from the edge of woodlot to the center of woodlot moving in a North-South direction. After the first set of measurements, the group proceeded to collect the same type of data from 10 pairs of adult trees in total. The data was recorded, evenly shared amongst the group members and submitted to Figshare.com for assessment.
