Ceramic technologies on the upper Madeira River: summary, timeline, and perspectives

Abstract The characteristic choices of clay types, production techniques, shaping, finishes, firing, and use marks in the chains of production and use for ceramic artefacts indicate the presence of at least five distinct technological groups in the upper Madeira River region from about 3,000 BP to the eighteenth century. This article summarizes the technological variations in order to reflect on classifications, recognition of local and regional traditions, continuities and changes in the archaeological groups and contexts. This information make it possible to describe cultural transformations as well as persistence among the people who produced these ceramics during the long span of occupation in this region.

摘要 陶瓷器物生产与使用全链条中，黏土类型选取、制作工艺、成型方式、表面处理、烧制工序以及使用痕迹的特征性选择，表明在距今3000年（Before Present）左右至18世纪的马代拉河（Madeira River）上游区域，至少存在五个截然不同的技术群组。本文对上述技术差异进行系统梳理与总结，旨在针对考古遗存群组与出土背景下的分类体系、本土及区域制陶传统的辨识、相关遗存的延续性与变迁展开反思探讨。依托此类信息，我们得以阐释该区域漫长人居时段内，制作此类陶瓷的人群所经历的文化变迁与存续状态。
