BETA-FOR_SP6_Gastropoda_2022/2023

This dataset includes records of gastropod species collected using pitfall traps across the 234 BETA-FOR patches. Two traps were installed 7 meters from the center of each patch, positioned in the northwest and southeast. Traps were emptied at the end of May, June, and July.

This dataset also includes records of gastropod species collected in leaf-litter samples. Five leaf-litter samples were collected 20 x 20 cm and 2 cm of the soil below. One sample was taken in the center of the patch, the other four in each cardinal direction 10 – 15 meters away from the center.

This dataset also includes records of gastropod species collected on and below deadwood. Two pieces of deadwood were chosen in each patch with at least 1 meter in length and a diameter of 10 cm. We tried to sample similar deadwood pieces in each patch. All gastropods on the deadwood and on the ground below were collected.

Sampling of the pitfall-traps was conducted in 2022 for 90 patches in the University Forest and 90 patches in the Bavarian Forest. In 2023, 18 patches in Hunsrück, Saarland, and Lübeck each, leading to a total of 54 patches. Sampling of the leaf-litter and deadwood was conducted in 2023 in all 234 patches.

All collected samples were sorted by the University of Würzburg and the University of Bayreuth and identified by Lisa Albert.
