构式语块与句法分析是中国学生习得英语的两个重要策略,各有优劣。本文针对这两个策略在习得prevent sb. from doing sth.构式过程中表现出的效果进行对比研究。结果发现:1.构式语块策略可以帮助学生迅速习得prevent sb. from doing sth.构式,但同时给学生留下与该构式相关的诸多困惑;2.句法分析策略需要学生具有一定句法规则储备才能习得该构式,但这个过程可使学生掌握该构式的本质并解释构式语块策略留下的各种困惑。根据这两种策略的优劣,本研究组织了一项基于100名被试的实证研究。经描述性、显著性、效应量等多层级统计学分析推断得知:针对prevent sb. from doing sth.构式的习得,1.在综合考虑简洁性和解释性的情况下,与构式语块策略相比被试更倾向于句法分析策略;2.在综合考虑构式语块策略和句法分析策略的情况下,与策略简洁性相比被试更注重策略解释性。语言习得策略多样,各有千秋。本研究为习得prevent sb. from doing sth.构式提供了一条值得借鉴的增效路径。
Constructional chunks and syntactic analysis are two pivotal strategies for Chinese students in English second language acquisition, each bearing distinct strengths and limitations. This paper presents a comparative study examining the efficacy of these two strategies when learners acquire the English construction prevent sb. from doing sth. The findings indicate that: 1. The constructional chunk strategy enables students to quickly master the construction prevent sb. from doing sth., yet it simultaneously leaves learners with a range of confusions pertaining to this specific structure; 2. The syntactic analysis strategy requires learners to possess a foundational stock of syntactic rule knowledge to acquire the target construction, yet this process allows students to grasp the core essence of the construction and explain all the confusions left by the constructional chunk strategy. Guided by the strengths and limitations of these two strategies, this study conducted an empirical study involving 100 participants. Through multi-level statistical analyses including descriptive statistics, significance testing and effect size calculation, the following inferences are drawn: 1. When balancing both conciseness and interpretability, participants showed a significant preference for the syntactic analysis strategy over the constructional chunk strategy; 2. When comparing the two strategies head-to-head, participants prioritized the interpretability of the strategy over its conciseness. Language acquisition strategies are diverse, each with its own unique merits. This study offers a worthwhile and efficiency-enhancing reference approach for learners aiming to master the construction prevent sb. from doing sth.
