Global 5G smartphone unit sales 2019-2022

While the number of 5G compatible smartphone devices sold worldwide was predicted to increase by 29 percent in 2022, from around 550 million sales in 2021 to 710 million sales in 2022, this growth rate is significantly lower than the prediction of a 47 percent increase at the beginning of 2022. This change in prediction may have been influenced by the zero tolerance COVID-9 policy in China, a leader in 5G adoption, which led to a drop in consumer spending on non-essential items such as 5G smartphones. The sales projections for 5G smartphones in 2023 are expected to pick up.
