Topical analysis of migration coverage during lockdown in India by mainstream print media

We conduct our experiments on news articles relevant to domestic migration happening in India during country lockdown amid COVID-19 pandemic. We performed a manual inspection on Indian mainstream printed news media websites and selected The Hindu and Times of India newspapers on the basis of the circulation, popularity and readership. We manually collect the links to these articles to ensure minimum noise (irrelevant articles) in our dataset. We use pandemic and migration related keywords and collect URLs to 2170 unique news articles published in the months of May and June, 2020. We utilise Newspaper3k (https://pypi.org/project/newspaper3k/) python library to download the news article content from these URLs.

本研究针对2019冠状病毒病（COVID-19）疫情期间印度全国封锁背景下，与印度国内人口迁移相关的新闻报道开展实验。研究团队首先对印度主流印刷新闻媒体网站进行人工筛选，依据发行量、知名度与受众规模，选定《印度教徒报》（The Hindu）与《印度时报》（Times of India）作为数据源。为最大限度降低数据集中的噪声（即无关报道），研究人员手动收集对应报道的链接。本研究借助与疫情及人口迁移相关的关键词，共收集到2020年5月至6月期间发布的2170篇非重复新闻报道的链接。随后，研究团队使用Newspaper3k Python库（https://pypi.org/project/newspaper3k/）从上述链接中下载新闻报道的完整内容。
