PhaFoS: A Global Database of Phanerozoic Foraminiferal Size

PhaFoS is a specimen-based database of foraminiferal body size spanning the Phanerozoic. The data was compiled from published studies containing foraminiferal size information, including both papers with illustrated plates of foraminiferans and size tables. PhaFoS compiles 118,885 specimens, of which 103,121 from 963 published papers and the remaining 15,764 from our field colletions, representing 4,167 genera and 34,256 species. Each record includes taxonomic information (Suborder, Family, Genus, Species), sample and locality information (Sample Number, Section, Collection Number, Formation, Member, Region, Country, Plate), geographic information (Modern Latitude, Modern Longitude, Paleolatitude, Paleolongitude), age information (Period, Epoch, First Age, Last Age, Stage, Age, Biozone), environmental information (Lithology, Sedimentary Environment), ecological and morphological attributes (SymbiontBearing, EcologicalPreference, Test Composition, Morphology), body-size measurements, including up to three test dimensions for each specimen where applicable, corresponding to length, width and height (Test Length 1, Test Length 2, Test Length 3), estimated test volume (Volume), and source information (DOI, Reference)
