Metagenomic assessment of the WWTP effluents impact on the River Iskar

A metagenomic study to assess the impact of a large wastewater treatment plant (125 000 eq. n. of inhabitants) effluent waters on the taxonomy, resistome and mobilome of the Iskar River. Two sampling points along the River Iskar following the WWTP were selected and water samples were collected in a time-series manner on 03 Nov, 17th Nov, 08th Dec and 21st Dec 2022. The study describes the temporal and spatial dynamics of the taxonomic composition, the presence of antimicrobial resistance genes, and their co-occurrence with mobile genetic elements and putative hosts.
