STRATIGRAPHIC POLLEN ANALYSIS AT SYMPHONY PARK, HONOLULU

The Symphony Park area is located in a relatively low-lying area at the
corner of Ward Avenue and Kapi'olani Boulevard, near downtown Honolulu and Kewalo
Basin. Wetland deposits were noted below modern fill. These wetland deposits
were cored for later sampling in the laboratory. Eighteen samples from the core
were examined for pollen to provide information about both the local and
generalized paleoenvironmental patters on this side of Oahu. Radiocarbon dates
provide a basal age for this core of over 6000 BP.

交响公园区域（Symphony Park area）坐落于沃德大道（Ward Avenue）与卡皮欧拉尼大道（Kapi'olani Boulevard）交汇处的相对低洼地带，毗邻火奴鲁鲁市中心与基瓦洛盆地（Kewalo Basin）。现代填土下方分布有湿地沉积。研究人员对该湿地沉积开展钻探取芯，以用于后续实验室采样分析。本次研究对该岩芯的18份样品进行花粉分析，旨在获取瓦胡岛（Oahu）该区域的局地与全域古环境模式相关数据。放射性碳定年结果显示，该岩芯的底部年代超过距今6000年（BP）。
