<b>Strategies for synergistic reduction of plastic leakage and greenhouse gas emissions in China</b>

The plastics industry is now confronting the intertwined challenges of environmental leakage and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Policy measures implemented to reduce environmental leakage or GHG emissions may have a mutually reinforcing reduction effect. However, the extent of this synergistic reduction has not been fully explored. Here we systematically analyze the material metabolism, environmental leakage, and GHG emissions associated with 14 plastic types in China over the period 1992–2021, and modelled the synergistic emissions reduction potentials and relative cost-effectiveness of these plastics under 14 scenarios between 2021 and 2060.
当前塑料行业正面临环境泄漏与温室气体(GHG)排放交织叠加的双重挑战。旨在减少环境泄漏或温室气体排放的政策举措,或可产生协同减排效应。但目前尚未充分探明该协同减排效应的作用规模。本文系统分析了1992-2021年中国14类塑料的物质代谢、环境泄漏与温室气体排放情况,并模拟了2021-2060年期间14种情景下这些塑料的协同减排潜力及相对成本效益。
