The predictive molecular model of the microbial-dependent delay of strobilation was elucidated that symbiotic cyanobacteria eliminated by antibiotics in the polyp stage enable to synthesize the retinal through enzymatic pathways, hence triggering the chain reaction in the retinoic acid signaling cascade that drives the strobilation of Aurelia. Remarkably, we observed that microbiota regulates nematocyte development and differentiation during the polyp-to-medusa transition, which in turn affects jellyfish fitness-related feeding and growth.
